Stuart Firestein – “The Values of Science: Ignorance, Uncertainty, and Doubt” – TAM 2012
A discussion of the worth of fully conscious ignorance in the practice of science. Lest the door be thrown open to cranks, quacks and charlatans, Firestein is careful to note that uncertainty and the propagation of new questions from new answers in no way equates to unreliability or a lack of confidence in what we can know.
To quote Vaclav Havel: “Keep the company of those who seek the truth, flee from those who claim to have found it.”
