G’day. Over the last weekend, my friend Carl pointed me out to an aggregator of fractal apps and general fractal awesomositousness, FractalFoundation, and there I discovered a cool bit of software, Mandelbulb 3D, which while sharing some few features analogous to Mandelbulber, and created by Jesse at Fractal Forums, is an entirely (well, to my n00bish mind…) different approach to doing both 2D and 3D images.
Just over the last three nights, including this one, I’ve been watching the online tutorials posted by YouTuber, Don Whitaker and then practicing with the software myself.
The version I have has a few quirks, like occassionally freezing up at odd moments, but with it, the most amazingly cool images make themselves apparent after only a few attempts.
Here are a few of my own halting efforts from its use…
All except the very last are hybrid images, combining two or more fractal types, while the last was a Julia set image whose seed coordinates were taken from a Mandelbulb figure. I have big plans for this app, though I hope my ambition doesn’t outstrip my patience with its use!
